The building where the hotel Parque del Lago is located was build in the early 1970's and its first use was for offices and stores. In 1990 with the upcoming tourism boom in Costa Rica, the building was transformed into one of San Jose's first boutique hotels and had great acceptance due to its central location and high levels of service. The hotel is owned by a Costa Rican family and the name Parque del Lago was thought of by the mother of the family. She and her husband have spent many Sunday outings in the nearby Sabana park that also is home to a nice little lake. From the top of the hotel, one has great views of the park (parque) and the lake (lago). Therefore: Parque del Lago. The logo of the hotel is a flourishing tree (arbol prospero) and the hotel Parque del Lago was one of the pioneers in the Certification for Sustainable Development (CST) in the mid 1990's.
