San Jose’s restaurant selection has become a truly diverse international cornucopia, abundant with anything from Lebanese cuisine to traditional Costa Rican food.

Parque del Lago’s newly renovated Iconos Restaurant offers a fresh, contemporary atmosphere with non-pretentious, honest international food, spiced with certain trademarks of Costa Rican cuisine such as Gallo Pinto or Casado. Great starters are our Spanish Omelette and Teriyaki Chicken Strips, while our Sirloin Medallions served with a spicy green pepper sauce are a highly recommendable main course. And because life wouldn’t be anything without sweets, try our lovely Passion Fruit Mousse.

Every morning enjoy the generous breakfast buffet, offering Latin American and international favorites.

Lunch is served buffet style offering a salad bar, soup of the day and the choice of two main courses. Don’t forget our scrumptious desserts accompanied by a steamy Cappuccino or Espresso.

We invite you to take an afternoon break, while striking up some good conversation at our Tardes de Café, or coffee afternoons. Savor a good cup of Costa Rican coffee with your favorite pastry.

The Iconos bar offers tropical drinks, classic cocktails and a select wine and beer list. Don’t miss our classic Happy Hour from 5 to 7 p.m., giving you a free Boca or appetizer with your first drink, as is often the custom here in Costa Rica.

If you would like to venture out into the San Jose dining scene, we recommend the following restaurants, all within the hotel’s vicinity or a 10 to 15 minute drive. Just around the corner is a favorite San Jose landmark, open since 1936 known as La Soda Tapia. An informal diner-style restaurant, Soda Tapia serves Costa Rican favorites, such as Gallo Pinto, fruit salads with ice cream or Jell-O, delicious tropical fruit juices or frescos, and an array of sandwiches, particularly the Lapiz or pencil. This is a small sandwich with a slice of meat, pureed beans, cheese, tomato and lettuce.

A walk or drive down Avenida Dos or Paseo Colon, the avenue lying north of the hotel’s main entrance, is full of interesting dining options. On the northeastern corner of the hotel is La Piazetta, a fine Italian restaurant offering creative dishes.

To the left of the KFC in Paseo Colon you’ll find the highly recommendable Machu Pichu, an informal Peruvian restaurant with big tasty portions and a bubbly ambience. Highly recommendable are their seafood dishes, fresh exquisite ceviches, Papa a la Huancaina, and their spicy and delicious Aji de Gallina.

Just east of the hotel you will find the best of French cuisine at La Brasserie Parisienne, offering delicacies such as Coquilles San Jacques, Seafood Crème, Duck l’orange, Rabbit in Red Wine Sauce and their truly exquisite homemade Pate.

If you are in the mood for Asian food try Tin Jo, a mid-town restaurant offering an array of Asian cuisine dishes, blending the best of Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, China and India. While you can not only choose to dine in rooms, lavishly decorated in each country’s characteristic styles, you can also select a lovely list of Asian dishes such as: Thai Chicken Curry, Kung Pao Chicken, Teriyaki Salmon or Vietnamese Chicken.

A great option which combines dining and entertainment is the nearby Plaza Istkatzu, located off the highway that leads into Escazu. Anything from Cuban and Spanish to a restaurant specializing in fondues, Plaza Istkatzu has a lively ambience, with certain restaurants offering live music.
